At first, Beatty looked really confused when he opened the Best Picture envelope — because apparently, it had Emma Stone's name on it. But Dunaway went ahead and called out "La La Land" after a brief pause.

And then — gasp! — La La Land producers were interrupted mid-speech after the Oscars crew realized the mistake. It's a shocking end to an awards season that pitted Damien Chazelle's tribute to classic Hollywood against Barry Jenkins's portrait of a young black man coming to terms with his sexuality.

In the end, it looks like someone mixed up the Best Picture envelope with the Best Actress envelope (Emma Stone did win Best Actress!).

Whoops.
