It turns out finding "the one" isn't all that it's cracked up to be, at least not according to Scotland's oldest woman, Jessie Gallan. Gallan turned 109 earlier this month, and she's got quite a lot of spunk.

"I never had to depend on anyone," said the self-reliant lady, who left her home when she was 13 to work as a milkmaid. "I always worked hard and seldom would I ever take a holiday," she added.

Now the centenarian lives in a nursing home in Scotland, and still remains active. She has close friends, does group exercises, goes to church and concerts, and is a hit among others in the home. "She's a remarkable woman," says a caregiver.

So what's her secret to a long life? In an interview, she revealed that exercising and having a daily bowl of porridge helped her reach her ripe age. Although not mentioned in the video interview below, Gallan reportedly told the DailyMail, "My secret to a long life has been staying away from men. They're just more trouble than they're worth."

Thanks for the advice, Jessie!
