Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren't the only royal couple getting married this year. Princess Eugenie of York and her longtime boyfriend Jack Brooksbank just announced their engagement, with a ceremony set for fall of this year.
After several years together, the pair will finally tie the knot only a few months after the prince and American actress. Here's everything royals watchers should know about the happy duo and their upcoming nuptials:
Who Is Princess Eugenie?
She's the younger daughter of the Queen's second son, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York. Her parents separated in 1992 before her second birthday. The now 27-year-old is currently eighth in line to the throne behind her older sister, Princess Beatrice. Unlike the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, she does not carry out royal engagements and works as a director at an art gallery instead. She will keep her royal title when she marries, but the princess does have the option of taking the groom's surname.
Who Is Jack Brooksbank?
A descendent of the aristocratic Brooksbank baronets, Brooksbank used to manage the London nightclub Mahiki, a celebrity hotspot and a former favorite of Prince Harry. The two didn't meet there however; a 2010 skiing trip to the Swiss resort Verbier first brought the couple together.
He proposed with a pink ring earlier this month.
Brooksbank popped the question a few weeks ago in Nicaragua, and the ring didn't disappoint. The rare padparadscha sapphire is named after the color of a lotus blossom, appearing pink-orange in color. The oval gem is set with a halo of diamonds on a gold band. In fact, the gorgeous bling seems fairly similar to her mother's ruby engagement ring.
They will get married at Windsor Castle on October 12, 2018.
St George's Chapel will host the ceremony, the same venue for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's May 19, 2018, nuptials. Don't expect there to be any animosity though. The couples frequently go on double-dates in both Toronto and now London.
The royal family couldn't be happier.
Proud mom Sarah Ferguson tweeted out a series of congratulations, expressing her "total joy" at the news.
The groom's parents also shared their excitement, telling BBC that they were "completely over the moon."
As for the Queen, a Buckingham Palace spokesman told BBC that the monarch and Prince Philip were "very pleased and wish the couple all the best."
